Description

General:

The ancient port is located in the bay of Limassol and is accessible from land. The ancient port of Amathus was built in the pre-Phoenician years, around 800 BC and is now the first archaeological underwater park in Cyprus. The port is one of the most well-known diving destinations in the province of Limassol due to its easy access, the rich marine life it hosts and its suitability for experienced and non-experienced divers. The area is characterized by impressive bio-diversity with various species of fish and rich Posidonia meadows.

Details:

The route starts with a dive at a depth of 0.5 meters. Divers are heading in a southern direction for about 180 meters, where they swim over large meadows of Posidonia and over the eastern mole of the ancient harbor.

Divers, while maintaining this route, reach the entrance of the ancient harbor at a depth of 1 meter. Upon reaching the entrance, divers can observe the large boulders that once formed the entrance to the port.

From here, divers make a right turn, heading in a western direction for about 170 meters at a depth of 1.5 meters, where they swim over Posidonia meadows and over the south mole, composed of a series of well-preserved boulders. The amazing visibility at this location allows divers to truly admire and appreciate the area’s biodiversity. At this point, divers make a 360-degree turn, facing the ancient port of Amathus.

Divers continue their route in an eastern direction, heading towards the outer side of the south mole at a depth of 2 meters. While maintaining this route for 170 meters, divers will reach the outer side of the entrance of the ancient harbor. The diving route ends when the divers reach the starting point, where the depth gradually decreases from 2 meters to 0.5 meters.
