In 10 minutes from the port of Hersonisos or from neighbouring areas and at a distance of about 6 miles, you will reach the German fighter aircraft BF-109 Messerschmitt, World War II, which is located at a depth of 26 meters.
The dive starts from the ship’s anchor chain, as the approach is only possible by sea.
At first, we encounter fields of Posidonia and then we see the shadow of the plane. This is upside down, with the propeller a few metres away and the tail fin around 100 meters at 30 meters deep. It is surrounded by meadows of Posidonia growing on a sandy bottom and rocky substrate.
The biodiversity on the wreck is rich, with colourful sponges growing on the wings and hull. Lionfish lazily live in various locations on the wreck and around the reefs, while a snorkel shelters under a wing.
On the propeller, purple nudibranchs can be observed on growing colonies of aquatic life. A moray eel is a permanent resident of the cockpit while curious schools of pelagic fish such as mayflies are attracted to the divers’ bubbles and come for a polite greeting. Visibility is very good.
