Description

General:

The Kalavros reef is a deep reef between Kastelli cape and Kalavros islet where from it was named.
It is located at the center of the “Diving park” at about 2,5 n.miles from Melitchacha port.
The reef is visible from the surface on a good weather. The shallowest depth is at about 8m and goes down to 80 meters.
The reef is large enough for a dive lasting 35-40 minutes. The dive site is suitable for a minimum diving level of Open Water Diver.

Details:

We anchor the boat onto the "Kalavros reef" at its North end. The depth there is 8 meters while outside the reef the depth reaches the 80 meters. The reef is large enough for a dive lasting 35-40 minutes. The dive site is suitable for Open Water Diver minimum diving level.

We start diving towards South, remaining on the reef. We go around along the edge of the reef at a depth of 18 meters. Once we reach our maximum depth, we emerge at 10-12 meters to return to the starting point.

Throughout the journey we meet colourful sponges, sea anemones, moray eels, nudibranch, starfish, shells, octopus, fish and green, red and brown seaweeds on the rocks. If we are lucky enough we may encounter herds of dolphins, tuna fish and barracudas.
