General:
Tarti reef is located near the beach of Tarti. In general, the waters here are shallow, with the main feature being the “heads” of the triple reef and the intense geological formations. There is a wide variety of habitats along the route, with circular routes and passageways and diving depths are from 5-30 meters. In addition, the abundance of fish, combined with the geomorphological interest and the alternation of routes, will delight and satisfy even the most demanding scuba diver. Recommended for divers of at least Open Water Diver level. Access is possible by boat from Gera, Charamida and Plomari.
Details:
It takes 15 minutes by speedboat from Charamida to Tarti reef. Anchoring can be done between the 3 heads of the reef or in the shallowest part of the North head, for a safe and comfortable descent.
The descent begins facing the South head of reef, tracing a counterclockwise course (10-15 meters). The scenery is really impressive, with intense vertical, volcanic, geological formations, with no current at all.
From the first minutes of the underwater tour, we meet groups of many fish (saddled sea bream, salpa fish, picarel, etc.).
Then following the narrow strip of sand to the right, between the Poseidonia meadow, we find the Eastern head of the reef, where we can go deeper (20-30 meters), again following the counterclockwise course of the circular reef. It is very likely that we will meet groupers, in the deepest parts and the deep blue in the open and the great depth are intense.
We return to the narrow strip of sand (path) and heading to the right, we will meet the North and third head of the reef, significantly reducing the diving depth by 10-15 meters. Following again a counterclockwise circular path, we encounter a multitude of fish (damsel fish, salpa, saddled sea bream, white sea bream), colorful sponges, nudibranchs, but also impressive rocky paths.
The last part of the dive is shallow (5-10 meters) and here rocks with red colors dominate. Αfter the safety stop at 5 meters we emerge to the surface.
