Description

General:

The Alisim Shipwreck diving route is located on the NW side of the islet of Strongyli, 4 nautical miles from the pier of Kamiros Skala. This area is combining increased biodiversity due to the settlement of a nearby fin-fish aquaculture farm, healthy Posidonia meadows along with the astonishing shipwreck of Alisim.

Diving commences at 3 meters depth reaching a maximum depth of 33 meters on Alisim’s stern. The route towards the shipwreck is characterised by healthy Posidonia meadows, whilst greater amberjacks join you along the route.

The diving route is relatively easily approachable, 15 minutes from the pier of Kamiros Skala with a speedboat and it is highly recommended for experienced advanced open water divers due to the dynamic condition of the location.

Details:

The boat docks on a designated buoy following a 15 minute journey from Kamiros Skala to Strongyli islet.

We submerge at 3 meters depth and we immediately encounter schools of saddled seabream, dusky spinefoot, salemas, grey triggerfish. Following the 15 meters depth contour, we roam through Posidonia meadows, where attentive divers can sport a multitude of benthic organisms such as sea urchins, starfish, oysters, gastropods, and sponges.

As we approach the wreck about 20 meters deep, the landscape changes to impressive small rocks on a steep sandy bottom. These rocks offer shelter to sponges of all kinds and colors octopuses, lionfish, golden groupers, and groupers.

Alisim appears in front of us with the bow starting at 23 meters depth, following a downhill course at the stern (33 meters). The Alisim was a 20 meter long Turkish wooden gullet sank in 2016 after heavy seas in the area. A diver’s wander, always tentative of strong currents that characterize the area, as well as remaining ropes and nets.

After touring the wreck for about 10 minutes (depth limitation), we slowly return at the 10 meter contour to the nearby fish farming unit where there are many chances of encountering dolphins and tuna during decompression stop. Dive duration 50 minutes.
